MARSHALL, Texas – It took overtime for the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team to earn their first win over the University of Texas Dallas since 2012, 4-3, in American Southwest Conference play.
Brianna Mickshaw scored the golden goal as ETBU moved to 7-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the ASC.
Mickshaw hit the golden goal in the 99
th minute (98:24) to give ETBU their seventh win and first ASC win over UTD since Sept. 29, 2012. It is only the third win in program history over UTD.
ETBU took 17 shots with nine on goal as they held UTD to just seven shots and three on goal. Mickshaw led the team four shots, two goals, and two assists.
Olivia Gallegos added four shots with two on goal with a goal and an assist.
Aaliyah Casas had a goal on one shot while
Sarah Ramos added three shots with one on goal and one assist.
Kayla Nichols and
Taylor Duran also added an assist.
In the first half, ETBU jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Just six minutes into the game, Gallegos hit a shot to the lower left goal for a 1-0 lead on an assist from Mickshaw and Duran. In the 28
th minute, Mickshaw earned her first goal with a lower right goal as Gallegos gave her the chance for the shot.
Aaliyah Casas made it 3-0 in the 38
th minute with an assist from Nichols and Mickshaw. UTD pulled to within two, 3-1, in the 38
th minute just before half.
The second half went to UTD as they scored in the 64
th and 86
th minute to send the game into overtime.
In overtime, each team had free kicks early but it wasn't until the 99
th minute that Mickshaw had the break away for the golden goal from Ramos for the win.
ETBU will heads to West Texas next weekend facing Howard Payne University on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Brownwood, Texas.
