BROWNWOOD, Texas – In a key American Southwest Conference match, Howard Payne University's offense over powered East Texas Baptist University, 4-1, in the women's soccer match. ETBU is now 7-4-3 and 3-3-2 in the ASC.
HPU out shot ETBU, 15-9, and had eight shots on goal. ETBU had seven of their nine shots on goal with one goal scored. ETBU's shots came from
Brianna Mickshaw (3),
Raegan Kappler (4), and
Kayla Nichols (2). Mickshaw recorded the lone goal in the match.
The first half became very close between both teams. HPU took just five shots to ETBU's three and scored quickly. ETBU came out firing in the first five minutes with two shots on goal in the fourth minute (Mickshaw) and the fifth minute (Kappler) with both saved. In the sixth minute, HPU connected for their first goal and the 1-0 lead. In the 22
nd minute, Kappler once again tried to tie the game only to see her shot stopped again.
It was all HPU in the second half going up 3-0 with goals in the 47
th and 69
th minutes. Mickshaw broke through in the 73
rd minute to make it 3-1 before HPU ended their scoring spree in the 74
th minute, 4-1.
ETBU travels to Alpine, Texas, to face Sul Ross State University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
