LONGVIEW, Texas – In a well-balanced rivalry match that came down to the final minutes, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team gave it their all but came up short, 1-0, against LeTourneau University. They end the regular season at 4-11-2 and 3-6-1 in the American Southwest Conference and will be the #8 seed in the upcoming post season tournament.
Both teams had strong offenses as ETBU produced 11 shots with five on goal.
Isaiah Simien recorded three shots with two on goal while
Travis Floyd had two shots on goal.
Joseph Flores added two shots with one on goal.
Juan Cairo, Maison Callicut and Garrett Gavin all had a shot.
Gunner Barry had three saves in the match.
It was quick and early for the only goal of the game as LETU scored in the 10
th minute of the game. ETBU tried to strike first in the ninth minute as Simien's shot on goal was stopped. Just a minute later is when LETU capitalized for the 1-0 lead. ETBU then had a shot on goal in the 37
th minute and three shots on goal in the second half as they fell in the final regular season game.
ETBU will not head to Belton, Texas, to face Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday in the ASC Tournament.
