LONGVIEW, Texas – It took only one goal and a great defensive effort as the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team earned another shutout with a 1-0 win over LeTourneau University. ETBU ends regular season 9-4-3 and 5-3-2 in the American Southwest Conference. They will now be the #6 seed in the upcoming ASC Tournament.
ETBU dominated LETU out shooting them, 24-8, with 11 shots on goal. LETU had only five shots on goal that were all saved.
Brianna Mickshaw led the way with five shots, four on goal, and the only goal of the night. Reagan Kappler also had five shots with two on goal while
Amy Pineda had four shots all on goal.
Karina Flores added another shot on goal. Also adding shots in the match were
Aylisse Warren,
Makayla Baxter,
Katherine Vela, Haley Maloy,
Grace Freeman and
Katelynn Smith.
Claire Montondon recorded all five saves in goal.
Taking 12 shots in the first half, ETBU couldn't find the net but held LETU to just one overall shot. After a 0-0 halftime score, it took Mickshaw just five minutes into the second half for the only score of the game. Warren found Mickshaw for the assist as ETBU took a 1-0 lead. LETU had seven shots in the second half but Montondon's great work in the goal secured the shutout.
ETBU will not head to Austin, Texas, to face Concordia Texas on Tuesday in the ASC Tournament.
