ABILENE, Texas - Conceding two first half goals to Hardin-Simmons University, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team were unable to get close to the Cowgirls, who managed a 3-0 win over the Tigers. This puts ETBU's overall record at 5-3-2 and their American Southwest Conference record at 1-2-1.
Raegan Kappler and
Amy Pineda were held to three shots each to lead ETBU.
Aaliyah Casas,
Olivia Gallegos, and Haley Maloy all recorded a shot in the game. Both
Claire Montondon (two saves, two goals allowed) and
Addison Funk (one save, one goal allowed) combined for three saves in the contest.
ETBU was able to keep the game scoreless for the first 35 minutes of the first half despite conceding four HSU shots while the Tigers had their first shot saved. But, the last 10 minutes of the half saw HSU put in two goals to go into the break up 2-0. ETBU had an early chance in the second half to cut the lead to one only for the shot to go over the goal. The Cowgirls then got their third goal in the 52nd minute and then kept the Tigers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.
ETBU will hit the road next weekend to take on Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss., on Oct. 9th at 5:00 PM.
