MARSHALL, Texas – A late second half surge from the McMurry University Warhawks kept the East Texas Baptist University men's basketball team from a victory at home, 82-74. ETBU is now 2-4 on the year and 0-1 in the American Southwest Conference.
Three players were in double figures as
Darry Moore led the way with a double-double on 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Aaron Gregg had 19 points and seven assists while
Jayden Williams added 12 points. McM had three players with 18 points in CJ LeBlanc, TJ Hilliard, and Michael Imariagbe.
ETBU shot just 36% from the floor, 20% from three-point range, and 62% from the line while McM made 42% overall, 38% from the arc, and 71% in free throws. ETBU was out rebounded, 52-38, but forced 13 turnovers.
McM took a 10-3 lead in the first four minutes of the game only to see an ETBU run. The Tigers followed on a 13-3 run for a three-point lead, 16-13, at the 11:39 mark. Gregg,

Ryan Elzy, and Williams helped in the run for the lead. ETBU made it a seven-point lead, 27-20 (8:07), on a
Charlie Cochran fast-break lay up. McM brought the lead down to one, 33-32, with 1:53 left but ETBU finished the half on a 5-0 run for a six-point lead at the half, 38-32.

ETBU was in cruise control the first 10 minutes of the second half pushing their lead to 13 points, twice. Gregg converted an and-one at the 10:40 mark putting ETBU up, 62-49, for the 13-point lead. That was the biggest lead ETBU had as McM took over in the final 10 minutes. In just five minutes, McM pulled to within two points, 67-65, on a 16-5 run at the 5:27 mark. Gregg had ETBU back up by six, 71-65, with 4:24 left on two free throws. Not 38 seconds later, McM was back within two, 71-69, only to see a Moore fast-break dunk put ETBU back up by four, 73-69, with 2:27 left. The game was tied then at 73 and 74 with 1:32 to go. Cochran went 1-of-2 at the free throw line to tie the game at 74. That was the last time ETBU would score as McM made two shots from the floor and went 4-of-5 from the line. ETBU turned the ball over twice and missed two three-pointers in that span as they fell, 82-74.
