MARSHALL, Texas - Conceding four first inning runs, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team was unable to put together a strong offensive outburst as they dropped a 13-5 mid-week game to Centenary College on Tuesday night. ETBU is currently 12-6 overall.
Will Kelley and
Carson Wilson would each have two hits in the game. While Kelley had two RBI, Wilson would homer along with
Jake Miller.
Adrian Stover would get the start going one inning allowing four runs on four hits receiving the loss. Preston Ludwick (two HR, four RBI) and Cody Crowder would each have three hits for the Gents while Andy Purpura earned the win with 4.2 relief innings allowing two runs on three hits and eight strikeouts.
The Gents struck for four runs in the top of the first inning. ETBU would respond in the bottom half with back-to-back homers from Miller and Wilson. CC would then retake the four-run lead with two more runs in the second inning. Then, they added a run in both the third and fourth to lead 8-2.
ETBU's pitching staff held the Gents scoreless in the next two innings while Kelley would drive in two runs on a triple in the sixth to cut the lead 8-4. CC responded with four runs in the seventh inning and one more in the eighth. Only a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth that scored
Jase Jones was all the Tigers would get as the final was 13-5.
ETBU will resume conference play this weekend with a home series against McMurry University. Friday night will be the opener starting at 7:00 PM.
