#TIGERSSWEEP | @ETBU_Baseball Hammers Out Four More HRs; Alvarenga Moves to 5-0

MARSHALL, Texas - Late game rallies were a theme for the East Texas Baptist University baseball team as they took care of business against the McMurry University War Hawks in a doubleheader on Friday night in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU shutout McMurry, 8-0, in game one and then took a 14-7 win in game two. The two wins put ETBU at 14-6 overall and 9-2 in the American Southwest Conference.

An 8-0 win in game one was keyed by Isaiah Alvarenga's third complete game of the season. Earning his fifth win of the year, Alvarenga struck out six batters while allowing seven hits and no runs. On offense, ETBU had homers from Carson Wilson (three RBI) and Sayers Collins (two RBI). Austin Barry would also drive in two RBI while Zachary McAdams had a team-high two hits.

It took ETBU a seven-run outburst in the seventh inning of game two to pull away with a 14-7 win. Colson Sledge, Jake Miller, and Jase Jones each had three hits to lead the Tigers. Miller (two HR, four RBI) and Jones (HR, three RBI) would also combine for seven RBI. Collins would get the win in relief with 3.0 scoreless innings pitched striking out seven batters and allowing two hits.

Game 1: ETBU 8, McM 0 (7 Innings)
A pair of defensive plays by Zachary McAdams kept McM off the scoreboard in the top of the first. ETBU's first three hitters would score three runs on a three-run homer from Wilson. Alvarenga faced an early jam in the top of the second with two runners in scoring position only to get a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.

The score stayed that way through five innings although Alvarenga overcame another situation with two runners on and the tying run at the plate. McM then loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth inning. Only a pop-up to Jones kept the War Hawks from scoring. The Tigers put the game out of reach with five runs as McAdams (RBI single), Barry (two-RBI single), and Collins (two-run HR) made it 8-0, which they would hang on to win.

Game 2: ETBU 14, McM 7
The War Hawks would get their first run of the day in the top of the first inning. But the Tigers answered back with a run in the first and second innings scored on wild pitches by Sledge and McAdams for a 2-1 lead. Each team scored a run in the third as Miller would answer McM's run with a solo blast to go up, 3-2.

The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the fourth with when Jones scored on an error while McAdams had his second run scored on a wild pitch. Miller would then tack on his second homer of the game that would score two to make it 7-2. McM broke out for five runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score at seven.

Then came the seventh as both teams loaded the bases. While McM came up empty, ETBU would run up seven runs in the inning. A fielder's choice off the bat of Wilson was followed by a wild pitch that scored Sledge to make it 9-7. Jones then homered to extend the lead to 12-7. After Cameron Neel drove in another run with an RBI bunt single, Miller then drew a bases loaded walk, which gave ETBU a 14-7 lead. Collins would then hold the lead by securing the last six outs of the game for the Tigers.

Game three will be moved up an hour to an 11:00 AM start tomorrow at Woods Field.
