JACKSON, Miss. – Neither team not scoring a goal in 110 minutes of play, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team came a way with a 0-0 tie against Belhaven University. ETBU is now 6-1-1 and 4-1-1 in the American Southwest Conference.
Brianna Mickshaw led ETBU with five shots with four on goal.
Olivia Gallegos had three shots with one on goal and
Ashleigh Rondon had two shots with one on goal. Belhaven's Sybil Roberson had five shots with one on goal.
Claire Montondon finished with five saves while Belhaven's Lauren Knorr had eight saves.
ETBU finished with 15 shots as eight were on goal while Belhaven had 11 shots and five on goal. ETBU also produced seven corner kicks and Belhaven had five.
Each team took five shots in the first half as only one was on goal for ETBU. Belhaven went right after ETBU just one minute into the game with a shot on goal as Montondon stopped her first save of the game. In the eighth minute,
Raegan Kappler had a shot on goal that was denied. Belhaven then had shots on goal in the 31
st and 42
nd minutes of the half as it was 0-0 at the break.
ETBU attacked Belhaven in the second half with seven shots and four on goal. Belhaven tried to strike first, though, with two shots on goal in the 51
st and 59
th minutes as both were grabbed by Montondon. Rondon took a shot at the goal in the 63
rd minute and then Mickshaw followed in the 78
th minute as both were saved. Mickshaw then posted two shots on goal in the 83
rd and 86
th minutes as the match ended 0-0 in regulation.
Mickshaw had the only shot in the first overtime in the 95
th minute just missing the net.
Jenna Kucera and
Olivia Gallegos each saw a shot on goal in the second overtime but came up short as the match ended in a 0-0 tie.
ETBU will travel to Pineville, La., on Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. game with Louisiana College to end the regular spring season.
