@ETBU_Softball Splits DH in Abilene; Croft Throws One-Hit Shutout Over McM

ABILENE, Texas - Back in American Southwest Conference play, the #2 East Texas Baptist University softball team came away with a split in the doubleheader against McMurry University. ETBU fell in game one, 4-2, but shut out McM, 8-0, in game two and is now 13-2 overall and 9-2 in the ASC.

In game one, Tristen Maddox would have two hits while Murin Musicant would pick up two RBI on a home run. Musicant would also receive the loss going 5.0 innings allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four batters.

The Tigers bounced back in game two with an 8-0, six-inning victory. Sarah Cedillo had three hits to lead ETBU while both Musicant and Maddox (RBI) would produce two hits. Sarah Bledsoe, Tauryn Cummings, and Mariah Delgado notched a RBI each. Ashley Croft went six innings allowing one hit while striking out six batters.

Game 1: McM 4, ETBU 2
Neither side would come through in the first two innings although the Tigers did strand a runner at third in the second inning. Four batters into the bottom of the third inning, the War Hawks scratched across two runs. ETBU would have a chance to answer with two runners on, but a double play ended the threat.

McM extended their lead to 3-0 with a solo homer in the fifth inning. Musicant would answer back for ETBU in the top of the sixth with a two-run shot to center to cut the lead to 3-2. However, the War Hawks would string together two-out hits to add an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning. ETBU would put two on and bring the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning with one-out only to see the War Hawks end the threat again to give hand the Tigers their second ASC loss.

Game 2: ETBU 8, McM 0 (6 Innings)
Determined to strike early, the Tigers put up a run in the first on a wild pitch scoring Cedillo and a RBI single by Delgado in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. In the third, Maddox would single, steal second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball to move up, 3-0. By the fifth inning, ETBU added two more runs on a pair of RBI groundouts from Cummings and Maddox making it, 5-0.

In the sixth inning, ETBU put three more runs on the board as Delgado and Cedillo each singled and had a double steal as Delgado scored. Bledsoe followed with a RBI hit while Musicant reached base on an error to score Bledsoe making it 8-0. Croft would take a no-hitter into the sixth before McM broke it up with a leadoff single. Yet, she managed to pick up the next three outs preserving the shutout win.

ETBU will look to take the series tomorrow at 12:00 PM.
