MARSHALL, Texas - Pulling off another comeback victory, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team scored two second half goals earning a 2-1 win over Belhaven University. ETBU is 3-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the American Southwest Conference.
Isaiah Simien had three shots scoring one goal while
Travis Floyd tallied the other goal on two shots.
Keaton Johnson and
Silas Sangano also recorded two shots. Gunnar Barry had five saves in goal.
Each side started with a shot saved by the keeper. Yet, it was BU who netted the lone goal of the first half in the eighth minute of the contest. ETBU's defense made key plays, though, the rest of the first half including a defensive save in the 11th minute. The Tigers would add two more shots on goal that were stopped BU went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
ETBU would get a shot chance to tie the match in the 48th minute but the shot just missed the net. Another scoring chance for ETBU would be saved in the 53rd minute as the offense started to pour it on. Then, in the 73rd minute, Simien would score the equalizing goal. BU would have a chance to take the lead in the 76th minute on a penalty kick, however, the kick sailed over the net. ETBU then took the lead in the 83rd minute when Floyd scored off the rebound shot just tapping the ball in the left side of the net. Barry then made two remarkable saves down the stretch while BU's last gasp went over the net on a corner kick in the final 30 seconds as ETBU held on for the win.
ETBU will hit the road next week to take on the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark., at 2:30 PM.
