RICHARDSON, Texas - Unable to match the offensive firepower of the University of Texas Dallas Comets, the East Texas Baptist University baseball fell 14-6 in game one of their three game American Southwest Conference series. ETBU is now 15-8 overall and 10-3 in the ASC.
Jase Jones led the team with three hits on the day while
Will Kelley (four RBI, HR) and
Carson Wilson each recorded two hits.
Cameron Neel would also have a RBI.
Blaine Parker went 3.1 innings allowing six runs on eight hits with one strikeout taking the loss.
Neither side would be able to score in the first two innings. UTD would finally break out for five runs in the bottom of the third inning while adding one in the fourth. ETBU would get their first run of the game in the top of the fifth as Kelley led off with a single before scoring on a fielder's choice off the bat of Neel.
The Comets would lead 7-1 after five innings before ETBU picked up two runs in the sixth as Kelley reached on a fielder's choice and
Jase Jones scored on a balk. Ultimately, it would be six runs in the seventh that set UTD away from ETBU. Although Kelley would drill a three-run homer in the eighth inning, the Comets added an insurance run in the eighth inning to pull out the victory.
The series will resume on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM.
