@ETBU_Baseball Takes Final Game vs. UTD

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
RICHARDSON, Texas - Battling hard in each contest, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team wound up splitting the series with the University of Texas Dallas Comets on Friday afternoon. ETBU is now 16-9 overall and 11-4 in the American Southwest Conference.

Game one had a come-from-behind 4-3 seven-inning win by the Comets. ETBU would have just two hits as both Colson Sledge and Jase Jones (RBI) would each have one. Isaiah Alvarenga would take his first loss of the season in 6.2 innings allowing four runs on six hits while striking out three batters.

The Tigers avoided being swept in game two winning 6-3. Cameron Neel recorded a team-high three hits and Carson Wilson recorded three RBI to go along with two hits, including a homer. Also recording two hits were Sledge, Jones, and Christopher Robinson. Cole Godkin earned his fifth win of the season on the mound. In six innings, he allowed three runs on six hits while earning three strikeouts. Blake Corbin received a three-inning save allowing one hit and striking out three.

Game 1: UTD 4, ETBU 3 (7 Inn.)
Neither side would scratch a run across in the first two innings despite having a runner on third. But the Comets would get two runs off a double to lead 2-0 after three. The Tigers would then answer in the top of the fourth with three runs. Jones doubled to center to score Jake Miller while Wilson came home on an error following a fly-out by Zachary McAdams.

Will Kelley would then drive in Jones on an RBI groundout as ETBU led 3-2. UTD would have runners in scoring position in both the fifth and sixth innings only to come up empty-handed. But in the seventh, they would tie the game and then win it 4-3 on a sacrifice fly.

Game 2: ETBU 6, UTD 3
ETBU would get the first two runs on a two-run shot by Wilson in the top of the first inning. Adding to their lead was an RBI single by Sledge in the second inning to go up 3-0. UTD would get on the board in the bottom of the second before leaving the tying runs on base.

The Tigers doubled their run total in the fourth behind RBI singles by Sledge and Wilson and a sacrifice fly by Miller. The Comets scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to trail 6-3. The score would stay the same for most of the contest as Godkin would depart after six innings. Corbin would hold down UTD's bats in the final three to record the save.

The Tigers are back home this Tuesday night for one game against Centenary College at 7:00 PM.
