BISMARCK, N.D. - Playing in their first American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II National Tournament game, the #14 East Texas Baptist University hockey team was held down by #2 Lindenwood University, 10-2. ETBU is now 11-7 on the season.
Both
Ryan Gruszka and
Davis VanGemerden would each score a goal for ETBU.
Riley Knott and
Filip Soderstrom recorded an assist on the goals.
Tyler Fitzgerald made 10 saves in net for ETBU.
Seven scoreless minutes went by before the Lions broke through for the first goal in the first period. ETBU would score their first national tournament goal from Van Gemerden to equalize (10:12). The tie wouldn't last as LU scored two more first period goals for a 3-1 lead.
That lead grew to 5-1 when the Lions tallied two goals in a span of 71 seconds. Gruszka trimmed the deficit to 5-2 (13:58) in the second period but with 30 seconds left, another LU goal brought the four goal lead at 6-2 after two periods. LU sealed the win with four goals in the third period.
ETBU plays #7 Dakota College at Bottineau on Friday at 1:30 PM.
