#TIGERSWIN | @ETBU_Softball Shuts Out LETU in DH Sweep

MARSHALL, Texas - Behind a pair of strong pitching performances, the #7 East Texas Baptist University softball recorded two shutout wins against LeTourneau University in American Southwest Conference play in both games, 5-0. ETBU is now 25-5 overall and 21-5 in the ASC.

With Preslye Cox in the circle for game one, ETBU blanked the Yellow Jackets, 5-0. Cox allowed two hits and struck out eight batters in seven shutout innings to earn her ninth win of the season. On offense, Hannah Garcia had two-RBI and was one of five Tigers with a hit along with Sarah Cedillo, Tauryn Cummings, Jeanette Galvan (RBI), and Nikki Gil.

Another 5-0 victory arrived for ETBU in the second game. This time, it was Ashley Croft who pitched the complete game shutout victory allowing just four hits while striking out 10 batters. Tristen Maddox (three RBI, HR), Sydnee Shea, and Gil each had two hits. Sarah Cedillo contributed two RBI on a single.

Game 1: ETBU 5, LETU 0
ETBU would put up two runs in the second inning as Galvan recorded a RBI double before she scored on a throwing error by the catcher later in the inning. In the third inning, Daniella Solis drove in the third run on a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead. Cox would strike out seven batters of the first nine in the LETU lineup to start the game.

But, LETU would threaten in the fourth inning with two runners on and nobody out. Cox, though, would then record three straight outs to end LETU's only chance to score in the game. The Tigers put the game out of reach as Garcia's two-run single in the sixth made it 5-0. That was enough for Cox to finish her outing in the seventh.

Game 2: ETBU 5, LETU 0
Once again, the Tigers struck first as they had a three-run blast from Maddox in the bottom of the first inning for a 3-0 lead. This time, LETU would have an early chance to score in the third inning with a two-out rally. Croft made sure the Yellow Jackets stayed off the scoreboard by retiring the next hitter.

Over the next three innings, Croft would deal with a runner on base and in scoring position. Each time, she would get herself out of the jam by key defensive plays from her defense. The Tigers would have chances to score in the fourth and fifth innings, but wouldn't capitalize. Then in the sixth, Cedillo drove in two more runs to put ETBU up 5-0. Croft would pick up her eighth win of the season with three outs in the seventh.

ETBU will take on LETU tomorrow for their senior day at 12:00 PM.
