MARSHALL, Texas – In a heart breaking loss, the #7 East Texas Baptist University softball team fell, 3-2, to #5 Birmingham-Southern College in the winner's bracket of the NCAA Division III Marshall, Texas Regional. ETBU is now 32-6 and will play an elimination game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. vs. #9 Salisbury University.
Sarah Cedillo and
Tauryn Cummings each picked up a hit for ETBU as Cummings earned a RBI.
Hannah Garcia also picked up a RBI.
Hannah Kelley went the distance receiving the loss recording one strikeout.
In the first inning, Kelley would overcome an early BSC threat with a strikeout and a pop-out to first. The Tigers scratched across a run in the bottom of the inning as Delgado walked, stole second, and scored on a groundout by Garcia. BSC knotted the score in the top of the third with a sacrifice fly. However, ETBU answered back with an RBI single by Cummings in the bottom half of the third inning.
Kelley made quick work in the fourth and fifth innings. In the sixth, the Panthers placed two runners on and one out but ETBU's defense turned a double play from Maddox and Garcia to end the inning. In the top of the seventh inning, BSC brought in two runs with one out to take the lead, 3-2. ETBU then went one-two-three in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.
ETBU will take on Salisbury University in an elimination game tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
