MARSHALL, Texas - Drawing level with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at halftime, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team was unable to respond to a second half goal as they fell 2-1 to the Crusaders in their American Southwest Conference opener. At 1-5-1 overall, the Tigers are now 0-1 in the conference.

Isaiah Simien had the only goal for the Tigers while leading ETBU with five shots total and three shots on goal. Garrett Garvin would be credited with the assist. Cristian Hernandez knotted seven saves in goal.

It took the Crusaders nearly four minutes to get on the board. The Tigers would get three shots in the first 26 minutes of the game with no success. But then, Simien scored on a one-on-one breakaway (26:07) to even the match at a goal apiece. The score was tied at halftime.

ETBU would have one shot to start the second half. The Crusaders would experience some bad luck with four shots hitting the crossbar. They finally broke the tie in the 68th minute for a 2-1 lead. ETBU had a few chances to tie, but were unsuccessful as UMHB took the win.

ETBU will look to bounce back on Saturday night at 7:30 PM when they host Concordia University (TX).
