MARSHALL, Texas - Facing 40 shots by Concordia University (TX), the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team came out with a 1-1 tie at Cornish Field. ETBU is 1-5-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the American Southwest Conference.
ETBU only put up 11 shots with
Garrett Garvin leading with four of them.
Isaiah Simien scored ETBU's only goal while launching three shots. Goalkeeper
Cristian Hernandez played all 110 minutes and made a career-high 11 saves.
The first half produced a combined 19 shots with ETBU responsible for seven of them. But no goal would be tallied until in the 49th minute when Simien put ETBU on the board first. The Tigers kept this one goal lead as Hernandez recorded four saves in the half. However, the Tornadoes got on the board in the 66th minute.
The game stayed tied for the remainder of the half. Each of the two overtimes would be dominated by CTX in terms of shots as they held ETBU without one. Still, Hernandez prevented any game-winners by the Tornadoes as he recorded six saves in both overtime sessions. When it was over, the score wound up being a 1-1 draw.
The Tigers will travel to Abilene, Texas to meet up with McMurry University this Thursday night at 7:30 PM.
