MARSHALL, Texas – A strong second half run by East Texas Baptist University provided them a 69-60 win over the University of Texas Dallas as they lobbied for spots in the middle of the American Southwest Conference standings. ETBU is now 10-9 overall and 8-6 in the ASC for fourth place by percentage.
Darry Moore led four ETBU players in double figures with 20 points shooting 9-of-12 from the floor.
Kevin Charles added 14 points shooting 7-of-8 while
Jayden Williams had 12 points and
Chris Haynes 11 points.
Jaden Conner led the team with seven rebounds. Kameron Pruitt had 15 points for UTD.
ETBU forced 20 turnovers with 13 steals posting 13 assist. Both teams shot in the 40% area as ETBU made 45% from the floor and UTD 44%. UTD then made 46% from the arc while ETBU was only 20%. ETBU did make 71% from the stripe as UTD had 70%. ETBU won the rebounding battle, 34-29.
FIRST HALF
The first five minutes saw both teams with the lead and battle for control. ETBU took a one-point lead, 8-7, on a Moore layup but UTD scored the next five points to go up, 12-8. Five points was the biggest lead for UTD in the half as ETBU tied the game at 23 on a Haynes free throw at the 3:16 mark. A Williams' layup secured another tie at 25 before UTD scored the final three points on free throws for a 28-25 lead at the half.

SECOND HALF
ETBU put together a great second half scoring 44 points and shooting 53%. UTD started out hot, though, taking a seven-point lead, 35-28, in the first three minutes on a 7-3 run. ETBU cut the lead down to one, 35-34, on a
Ryan Elzy layup at the 15:53 mark but UTD still had a three-point lead, 39-36, with 13:33 left. ETBU answered on a 9-0 run over two minutes to take the lead by six, 45-29, as Williams hit a three-pointer to end the run. UTD was within one, 47-46, just two minutes later and took the lead, 51-49, with 8:13 to go. ETBU went on a 9-3 run for a four-point lead, 58-54, as Williams hit his third three-pointer of the game. UTD came within two, 58-56, at the 4:37 mark but Moore made it a six-point lead, 62-56 on a layup with 3:05 remaining. UTD was within five, on a free throw with 2:21 left, 62-57, but ETBU finished the game on a 7-3 run taking the game, 69-60. They were up by 12-points, 69-57, with 27 seconds left before UTD hit a three-pointer to end the game.
