BELTON, Texas - In an exciting five set match, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team fell short to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 25-20, 21-25, 23-25, 27-25, 12-15. ETBU is now 14-5 and 6-5 in the American Southwest Conference.
Avery Reid led the team with 30 kills, followed by
Graycee Mosley who recorded a double-double of 22 kills and 32 digs. Lexi Moody finished with a double-double of 66 assists and 14 digs.
Lillie Hill recorded 35 digs, as well as five service aces.
UMHB led the first set before ETBU tied it at four. ETBU took the lead 15-13 with back-to-back kills by Reid. The Tigers kept the lead the rest of the set, widening the gap to 19-14 on a kill by Mosley. The set ended 25-20 with a kill by Reid, followed by an attack error on UMHB.
The second set started neck-and-neck, tying the score six times. UMHB took the lead 17-14 after the final tie. A kill by Madi Chandler brought the score to within four, 22-18, but the Cru won the set, 25-21
The teams kept the third set close, tying the score 12 times. A kill by Reid made it, 4-2. ETBU took the lead again with an ace by Hill, 14-12. The set was tied at 23 with a kill by Reid from Moody. UMHB won the final two points to take the third set, 25-23.
The fourth set was one of the closest sets of the five with 18 ties. Reid tied the set at 12, and again at 13. The Cru took the lead 17-15 before ETBU tied the set at 19 with a kill by Mosley. The Tigers took the fourth set, 27-25, with a kill by Mosley.
ETBU started the fifth with a short lead of two, 4-2, from a kill by Perry. Chandler tied the set at five with a kill from Moody. The Cru took the lead before a kill by Reid tied the score at 11. UMHB won the set and match scoring four out the final five points, 15-12.
