AUSTIN, Texas – Playing their second straight five-set match in two days, East Texas Baptist University dropped their American Southwest Conference match to Concordia University Texas, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 10-15. They are now 14-6 overall and 6-6 in the ASC.
Avery Reid and
Graycee Mosley led the team in kills. Reid had 17 kills while Mosley posted another double-double with 23 kills and 18 digs. Lexi Moody had 42 assists and over 100 assists in two days.
Lillie Hill finished with 23 digs while
Maddison Harris had 11.
ETBU opened set one with a 4-1 lead on two CTX attack errors and Reid kill. They moved the score to 10-4 on a 6-3 run ending on a Mosley kill. CTX came back to within one, 10-9, but ETBU answered with a 4-0 run to make it 14-9 on another Mosely kill. CTX fought back to within one, 17-16, but ETBU pushed through to make it a 22-18 lead on a
Hannah Perry kill. CTX pulled back to within two, 22-20, but an
Alexis Mack block and a CTX attack error ending the set in favor of ETBU, 25-20.
CTX opened up with a 5-1 lead in set two. ETBU came within one, 10-9, with a kill by Mosley but CTX scored the next three points for a 13-9 lead. ETBU rallied back for a 15-14 lead on a Reid kill as the set went back and forth the rest of the way. Madi Chandler gave ETBU a 21-10 lead but CTX scored the next five points to tie the set at one each.
The Tornados took a 6-4 lead but ETBU tied it at six. Another two-point run by CTX made it 8-6 but ETBU scored four of the next five points for a 10-9 lead. Both teams exchanged points until CTX went up 21-18. ETBU fought back to take at 24-22 lead and then a Mosley kill made it 25-23 as ETBU went up two sets to one.
For the third set in a row, CTX ran out to a 6-2 lead. ETBU cut the lead to one, 13-12, but CTX scored three straight points making it 16-12 and then 19-14. ETBU pulled to within two, 24-22, on a CTX error but a Tornado kill made it 25-22 to send it to a fifth set.
After exchanging points, CTX went on a 3-0 run for a 6-3 lead. They then extended it to 11-5 but ETBU came within three, 13-10. A CTX kill and an ETBU attack error ended the match, 15-10, as the Tornados took the win.
ETBU will host Howard Payne University on Friday, October 21, at 6:00 p.m. in Ornelas Gym.
