MARSHALL, Texas - In their last home volleyball match of the season, East Texas Baptist University defeated the Sul Ross State University in four sets for on Senior Day, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19. This was their second match against the Lobos in ASC play as they split the series this year. The Tigers are now 16-6 overall and 8-6 in the American Southwest Conference.
Setter Lexi Moody led the Tigers with a double-double of 45 assists and 19 dig as
Graycee Mosley posted a double-double of 21 kills and 22 digs.
Avery Reid had 24 kills,
Lillie Hill had 23 digs, and
Hannah Perry finished with five blocks.
ETBU started the game with back to back kills by Mosley for the 3-0 lead. SRSU was quick to tie the game three times before the Tigers regained their lead on a kill by Reid setting the score at 7-5. A kill by Perry gave the Tigers an eight-point lead, 18-10. The Lobos were not going down without a fight, bringing a run that closed the gap to four, 23-19. ETBU ended the set, 25-19, with a block by Perry and Reid.
The Lobos came into the second set with a short run, 4-1. ETBU was quick to tie the score at five. The score was neck and neck having 12 ties in the set. A kill by Reid, followed by a Lobos setting error, gave the Tigers a two-point lead, 11-9. SRSU took the lead 17-15, before ETBU came back for a one-point lead, 18-17, on a service ace by
Maddison Harris. The teams kept the score close, but the Lobos took the second set, 25-23.
SRSU started the third set like the previous set opening with a five-point lead, 7-2. ETBU answered with a run of their own pulling to within one, 8-7, on a kill by Mosley. The Tigers trailed behind through the set, but a kill by Reid set the team in motion to take a five-point lead, 20-15, on an ace by Harris. ETBU ended the set, 25-21, with a kill by Mosley from Moody.
The Tigers entered the fourth set strong with kills by Mosley for a four-point advantage, 7-3. A kill by
Alexis Mack made it, 14-11. Reid completed a kill from Moody that gave the Tigers a seven-point lead, 22-15. Kills by Perry and Mosley gave the Tigers the win, 25-19.
ETBU will play next in Abilene, Texas, on Friday, October 28th at 6:00 pm against McMurry University, and on Saturday, October 29th at 11:00 am against Hardin-Simmons.
