ABILENE, Texas – Starting off their West Texas road trip against reigning American Southwest Conference champion Hardin-Simmons University, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team fell short to the Cowgirls, 5-1. ETBU is now 6-5-1 on the year and 0-3 in the ASC.
ETBU took eight overall shots with five on goal as
Alicea Castaneda had the lone goal.
Aylisse Warren led the team with two shots on goal.
Sarah Ramos and
Makayla Baxter also had shots on goal. HSU took 19 shots with 11 on goal.
Addison Funk recorded five saves in goal.
HSU took command of the game early with goals in the 12
th and 15
th minute for the 2-0 lead. They then scored two more goals in the 30
th and 36
th minute making it 4-0. In the 41
st minute, Baxter found Castaneda open for ETBU's only goal as they were down, 4-1 at the half.
In the second half, ETBU took five shots and held HSU to just eight shots. HSU made it 5-1 in the 64
th minute. ETBU recorded three of their five shots on goal in the second half.
ETBU will take on McMurry University on Saturday night at 5:00 p.m. at Wilford Moore Stadium.
