MEMPHIS, Tenn – In. their first road trip of the year, East Texas Baptist University blew out Rhodes College, 88-67. ETBU is now 2-1 overall.
Leading the Tigers was Bridget Upton with 26 points. Mollie Dittmar recorded 13 points and two assists followed by Brooke Webster with 12 points.
Kaia Williams finished with five assists, five rebounds, five steals, and five points and Kenidi White added seven rebounds, four assists, and eight points.
FIRST HALF
ETBU started the game with an early lead, 8-3, with three-pointers by Webster and Upton followed by two more points from Webster. Rhodes closed the gap to three, 10-7, and ETBU followed with a shot from inside the paint, 12-7. Michaela James gave the Tigers a nine-point lead with a turnover in the paint and a layup, 16-7. Williams brought the lead to 11 with a pull up shot, 21-10. A 12-point lead of 27-15 came on a fast break shot by Upton followed by a free throw. The quarter ended 30-15 with a three-pointer by Upton.
The second quarter stayed close, with the first point of the period coming at 7:58 with a shot by the Lynx, 30-17. The Tigers made their lead 14 points, 34-20, with a layup by Jayla Hall. Hall later followed her layup with two free throws, 35-20. Rhodes brought the score to within 14 points, 35-21, on free throws. The Tigers returned with free throws of their own by Chloe Rogers, 37-21. Rhodes closed the gap, 37-29, with a run, ending with free throws. ETBU made it a double-digit lead with a jump shot by Hall. Tiffany Bickford recorded a jump shot, bringing the score 41-31 to end the first half.
SECOND HALF
ETBU scored the first points of the half at 9:20 on a layup by Dittmar, 43-31. ETBU brought the score 47-32 with free throws and a layup by Upton. Dittmar then made two free throws to go up, 49-32. The Tigers gained a 21 point lead on a jump shot from outside the paint by White, 54-33. The Lynx closed the gap with a run, 54-40. Dittmar made it a 20-point lead, 60-40, with free throws. The quarter ended 63-44 with a second chance jump shot by Bickford.
Rhodes started the final period with a run of three pointers, 63-53. The Tigers followed with a three by White, 66-53. Webster brought the five points with a three pointer and shot from inside the paint, 71-55. Upton came through with another shot from outside the paint, 82-65. Jamara Levy scored the final points of the game on a layup at 0:36, 88-67 for the win.
UP NEXT
The Tigers will play again in Memphis, Tenn., on November 19th, at 2:00 pm against Fontbonne University. This will be the teams' first match against each other. Fontbonne has a 0-0 record with ETBU being their season opener.
