FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Dominating the West Coast in two games, East Texas Baptist University thumped Pacific University, 87-59. ETBU is now 3-1 on the year.
Kevin Charles and Aaron Gregg had 20+ games and Darry Moore added 15 points. Charles posted a career-high 27 points adding three blocks and seven rebounds while Gregg posted 20 points with nine assists and six rebounds. For the second game in a row, ETBU shot better than 60 percent making 62 percent from the floor, 42 percent from the line, and 68 percent from the stripe. Pacific finished shooting 45 percent, 35 percent from the arc, and 5- percent from the stripe.
Pacific went up 5-0 to start the game and had a 10-5 lead with 16:36 left in the half. By the 13:14 mark, ETBU was down by seven points, 16-9. Pacific kept their lead and was still up by five, 20-15, with 10:23 left in the half. Pacific continued to have a six-point lead, 30-24, with 6:29 to go. Charles hit a layup with two seconds left in the half as ETBU was down three at the half, 34-31.
ETBU started the second half on a 13-0 run for a 10-point lead, 44-34, with 17:33 to go. Gregg provided seven of the 10 points in the run. Pacific cut the lead to five, 46-41, with 13:51 left. Over the next six minutes, ETBU had a 22-7 run to take a 20-point lead, 68-48, on a Gregg lay up on a fast break. ETBU didn't let up the rest of the way taking their biggest lead of 28, 87-59, on a Martin McDowell lay up with 1:13 left to play.
ETBU will now be off until December 1 when they travel to Abilene, Texas, to face McMurry University at 7:30 p.m.
