#TIGERSWIN | MBB | ETBU Closes Out 2022 Cruising to Victory vs. BU

JACKSON, Miss. – Ending 2022 with a massive win in Mississippi, East Texas Baptist University cruised to a 94-57 win over Belhaven University in regional men's basketball action. ETBU is now 10-2 as they head to West Texas next weekend for American Southwest Conference play.
 
Four players were in double figures as Aaron Gregg led with 20 points going 4-of-4 from the three-point line. Ryan Elzy was 8-of-8 from the floor for 17 points while Darry Moore had seven rebounds and 17 points. Kevin Charles also added seven rebounds and 16 points.
 
ETBU had a great game shooting at 56.5 percent and made 46.7 percent from the arc and 90 percent at the line. Belhaven finished at 40.7 percent shooting and was 26.3 percent from the three-point line and 66 percent on free throws.
 
Belhaven jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the first two minutes and held a 10-6 advantage at the 17:19 mark. ETBU responded with 12-2 run over two minutes that was started with a Gregg three-pointer. Moore then completed a three-point play to tie the game at 12 and then Elzy had a fast break layup on a steal for the lead, 14-12. Belhaven came back to tie the game at 20 and then hit a three-pointer at 12:20 to retake the lead, 23-22. ETBU once again went on another run, this time 10-1, over four minutes. Elzy gave ETBU the lead back on a jumper, 24-23, and then Moore scored the next six points before Elzy hit a three-pointer for the 10-point lead, 33-23. With 7:10 left to play, BU cut the lead to eight, 35-27. That is as close as they would come they outscored BU, 14-6, the rest of half for a 49-33 lead.
 
ETBU ran away with the game in the second half. Gregg gave ETBU a 21-point lead with a three-pointer at 16:52, 58-37, and then Elzy had a layup at 8:32 for a 31-point lead, 77-46. Boll Nyang gave ETBU their largest lead of 37, 94-57, on the last bucket of the game.
 
ETBU travels to Brownwood, Texas, to face Howard Payne University on Thursday, January 5, at 7:30 p.m.
