#TIGERSWIN | WBB | ETBU Comeback Seals 18th Win of the Year

AUSTIN, Texas – Scoring 45 points in the second half, #22 East Texas Baptist University came from behind for their 18th win of the year, 65-54, defeating Concordia University Texas. ETBU is now 18-4 and 14-3 in the ASC and will be the #2 seed in the upcoming ASC Tournament.
 
Taylor Singleton led the team with 17 points and five rebounds recording four steals. She is now just three steals away from breaking the ETBU career record held by Marzetta Shepard (211). Both Jade Goynes and Grace Stephens collected 10 points each. Goynes, Mallory Stephens, and Kaia Williams all had five rebounds. Natalie Velardez led CTX with 14 points.
 
ETBU shot just 31% from the floor and three-point land making 78% from the line while CTX made 32% of their shots but was held to 15% (2-of-13) from the three-point line and was 84% from the stripe. ETBU out rebounded CTX, 41-33, and forced 20 turnovers.
 
Making a combined five shots in the first two quarters, ETBU scored just 20 points with nine in the second quarter. In the second quarter, ETBU was just 2-of-10 not making any three-pointers as CTX had a one-point lead at the half. ETBU was up by as much as five points in the first quarter, 8-3, on two Singleton free throws. Both teams went almost four minutes without making a shot in the second quarter as Goynes sailed in a jumper with 1:21 left for a one-point lead, 18-17. After CTX took the lead again, Singleton made a jumper with 15 seconds left retaking the lead, 20-19, before the Tornados hit two free throws with three seconds left for the one-point halftime lead.
 
ETBU had their biggest quarter in the third scoring 23 points making five three-pointers. With 7:07 on the clock, CTX had a two-point lead, 28-26, when ETBU went on a 9-2 run for a five-point lead, 35-30, over three minutes. Singleton nailed a three-pointer for the five-point lead as Grace Stephens also had a three-pointer in the run. Williams gave ETBU a seven-point lead with a three-pointer at the 1:39 mark, 40-33, and then Hanna Hudson swooshed a three for the eight-point lead, 43-35, to end the quarter.
 
Haley Fiesler made it a 10-point lead, 45-35, just over a minute into the fourth quarter. Grace Stephens kept the lead at 10, 47-37, on two free throws with 8:16 remaining but CTX went on a 10-2 run to come within two points, 49-47, with 5:51 left. With 3:32 left, CTX was within four points, 55-51, but in three minutes ETBU had an 11-point lead, 63-52, on an 8-1 run as Goynes banked in a shot. Mallory Stephens finished out the game making two free throws for the 11-point win, 65-54.
 
ETBU will finish out the regular season on Saturday in Belton, Texas, against #14 Mary Hardin-Baylor.
