MARSHALL, Texas – Opening up at Taylor Field for the first time in the 2022 season, #4 East Texas Baptist University swept the University of the Ozarks, 10-2, and 8-0. ETBU is now 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the American Southwest Conference.
Kathryn Reed and
Ashley Croft earned wins in the series. Reed started game win recording 10 strikeouts while Croft won game two with six strikeouts.
Tristen Maddox was 6-of-8 with six RBI and five runs scored.
Tauryn Cummings finished 5-of-7 with four RBI while
Courtney White was 4-of-7 with two RBI.
POST GAME INTERVIEW
GAME 1
ETBU 10, UO 2
In a five-inning game, Reed struck out 10 batters facing 20 overall retiring the side in the first and second innings. Four players posted two or more hits in the game as Cummings was 3-of-3 for two RBI. Maddox, White, and
Sarah Bledsoe all had two hits. Maddox and White added two RBI while Carpenter,
Marin Musicant, Bledsoe, and
Braidee Glenn had one RBI.
Musicant brought in the first run on a walk with the bases loaded in the first inning followed by a Cummings double scoring both
Corley Carpenter and White for the 3-0 lead. Carpenter then doubled in a run in the second making it 4-0. ETBU the scored five runs in the third inning making it 9-0. Glenn grounded out for the first run of the inning. Maddox followed with a two RBI double and then White singled in two runs for the nine-run lead.
UO scored two runs in the fourth inning but a Bledsoe single in the bottom of the fourth inning was enough for ETBU to end the game in the fifth, 10-2.
GAME 2
ETBU 8, UO 0
Croft pitched a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts for her first win of the year. She also retired the first six batters of the game. Maddox went 4-of-4 with a RBI and three runs scored to lead the team. White, Carpenter, Cummings, and
Lorena Ramirez each had two hits. Carpenter and Cummings added two RBI while Maddox, Musicant, Ramirez, and
Alison Carrion had one RBI.
Musicant walked again for a RBI as the first run of the game in the first inning. Ramirez made it 2-0 on a single to finish out the first. In the second Carpenter singled in a run to move the score to 3-0. Cummings doubled in White in the fourth inning for a 4-0 lead and then ETBU unleashed for three runs in the fifth to end the game. Maddox singled in the sixth run followed by a run scored on an error. Cummings long single off the wall ended the game as Maddox scored to end the game at 8-0.
ETBU will finish off the series with one game on Saturday at 12 p.m.
