SB | ETBU Wins Series Over HSU After Weather Delay

ABILENE, Texas – Taking the series with a weather suspended game into Tuesday, #4 East Texas Baptist University won game three, 9-2, over Hardin-Simmons University. HSU won the final two innings of game two on Tuesday afternoon after the game was suspended on Monday night. ETBU is now 6-3 overall and 6-2 in the American Southwest Conference.
 
Game 2
HSU 5, ETBU 3 – suspended game into Tuesday

After being tied at three on Monday night, the game was suspended in the top of the sixth inning. Cummings had two hits while Tristen Maddox and Delanie Loya recorded a RBI. Marin Musicant took the loss on Tuesday pitching the one inning giving up two runs on two hits with one strikeout. Ashley Croft started the game on Monday and went five innings allowing seven hits and three earned runs.
 
Cummings started the game getting on base by an error that allowed Maddox to score for a 1-0 lead. HSU scored two runs in the second inning for the one-run lead, 2-1. Loya tripled in Musicant to tie the game at two. HSU answered in the bottom of the inning with a run making it 3-2. Maddox then homered in the fifth inning to tie the game at three. HSU threatened in the bottom of the fifth inning with two runners on but Croft got out of the inning. As ETBU was ready to bat, the game was halted due to weather.

On Tuesday, HSU scored two runs off Musicant in the bottom of the sixth inning making it 5-3. ETBU threatened with two outs and two runners on but couldn't bring them in as they fell, 5-3.

Hannah Kelley received the win going all seven innings with no earned runs and two strikeouts. Cummings went 3-of-4 with two RBI to lead the team. Loya was 2-of-3 with three RBI while Maddox added two hits and two RBI. Courtney Whited posted two hits and one RBI while Amber Thibodeau had a RBI.
 
ETBU scored in five of the seven innings posting five runs in the fourth to blow open the game. Cummings brought in the first score on a single to left field. Maddox followed with a single as Loya came in for the 2-0 lead. HSU tied the game at two in the second inning but Loya's sacrifice fly in the third inning made it 3-2 as Corley Carpenter scored.
 
It was the fourth inning that was the difference as five runs were scored to make it 7-2. White brought in the first run on a single and then Cummins earned her second RBI with a hit up the middle making it 5-2. Loya then singled in two runs for the 7-2 lead. Thibodeau finished the scoring in the inning on a walk with the bases loaded pushing it to 8-2. Maddox collected a RBI in the seventh inning with a shot up the middle making it a final of 9-2.
 
ETBU will host Howard Payne University this Friday and Saturday in an ASC series.
