SHREVEPORT, La. – Closing out the Gents' Classic in a one-run game, East Texas Baptist University came up short, 2-1, to Centenary University. ETBU is now 2-2 on the year and split their games with regional opponents Willamette and Centenary.
Brett Wagner went 2-of-3 with a walk while
Will Kelley and
Blake Mullen each had a hit. Branden Fowler took the loss going 0.2 innings giving up one earned run.
Tyler Schwenn received the start going four innings allowing just two hits recording four strikeouts.
Rece Gustafson followed for three innings with one earned run, four hits, and three strikeouts.
Johnny Follett worked 0.1 innings with one strikeout.
In the low scoring affair, Centenary struck first in the fifth inning on a single scoring the first run. ETBU tied up the game in the sixth on a passed ball by the Centenary catcher as Kelley came home. It was in the bottom of the eighth inning that Centenary took the lead for good on a double play as a run scored.
ETBU will be home on Friday/Saturday in their home opener in American Southwest Conference play against Belhaven University. The first game will be Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
