ABILENE, Texas – In two one-run games, East Texas Baptist University came away with the American Southwest Conference series win as they won game three, 10-9, in 11 innings. In the first game of the day, they fell, 5-4, in the seven-inning game. ETBU is now 16-7 overall and 13-2 in the ASC.
Game 2
McMurry 5, ETBU 4
McMurry scored five runs in the first two innings to hold onto the win, 5-4.
Jacob Sherman took the loss going just one inning with one strikeout and four earned runs.
Braden Karnes finished the final five innings with four strikeouts, three hits, and one earned run.
Will Kelley led the team with two hits and two RBI while
Jase Jones had two RBI.
Down 5-0, ETBU scored two in the fourth inning on a Jones home run two left field that brought in
Christopher Robinson. ETBU then added two in the top of the seventh inning as Kelley singled in
Carson Wilson as
Mason Bobo also scored. The rally was cut short, though, as ETBU fell by one, 5-4.
Game 3
ETBU 10, McM 9 – 11 innings
It took extra innings and great pitching in the bottom of the 11
th for ETBU to pull off the series win. ETBU trailed in the game three times before pulling off the win. They scored two in the top of the 11
th inning and then held off McM with the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning. With one out and the bases loaded,
Jagger Neely struck out a batter on a full count and then the final batter grounded out to end the threat and take the series.
Neely received the win going the final five innings with six strikeouts and one earned run with one walk. Rece Gustafason started the game and went giving up two earned and five runs overall.
Peyton Miller followed going 2.1 innings with two strikeouts and two earned runs.
Brett Wagner had a personal best going 4-of-6 with one RBI and three runs scored to lead the team.
Jase Jones added another home run and was 3-of-4 with four RBI while Robinson also had three hits and one RBI. Adding two hits were
Zachary McAdams and Wilson. Wilson then added two RBI while McAdams, Robinson, and
Jake Miller all had one RBI.
ETBU will host the University of St. Thomas-Houston on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
