ABILENE, Texas – A solid pitching performance from
Cole Godkin led to an East Texas Baptist University, 10-2, win over McMurry University in the first game of the American Southwest Conference series. ETBU is now 15-6 and 12-1 in the ASC.
Godkin went seven innings for his third win of the year striking out six batters retiring the side to start the game.
Trent Clark then finished the final two innings recording one strikeout.
Will Kelley led the team with three this for two RBI while
Jase Jones had two hits, one a home run, for three RBI.
Austin Barry also added two hits while
Zachary McAdams had a RBI.
Jake Miller then added two RBI.
ETBU took a 2-0 lead scoring two in the second inning.
Christopher Robinson came in on a wild pitch for the first run and then Jones scored on a fielder's choice. McM cut the lead to one in the bottom of the second but ETBU had a three-run fifth inning for a 5-1 lead. McAdams recorded a sacrifice fly for the first run of the inning as Kelley doubled in Nick Massari and then scored on a passed ball for the four-run lead. McM added one more run in the bottom of the fifth but saw ETBU make it 6-2 in the sixth inning on a Miller double to left field as Barry came in.
Jones finished off the scoring in the ninth inning with a three-run home run to left centerfield for the 10-3 win.
ETBU will play a double-header on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. in Abilene.
