ALPINE, Texas – Pulling out two victories in West Texas, #7 East Texas Baptist University swept through Sul Ross State University in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU came back for a 6-3 win in game one and then had a run-ruled five-inning game two, 12-2. ETBU is now 20-5 and 14-3 in the ASC.
Kassidy Cravey won her first collegiate game in relief in game one and
Ashley Croft improved to 6-2 with the win in game two.
Tristen Maddox had five RBI while
Tauryn Cummings had four RBI on the day.
Game 1
ETBU 6, SRSU 3
Scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning to come back from being down, 3-1, ETBU took game one in a big way. After five scoreless innings to start the game, ETBU cut the lead to two in the sixth inning on a
Delanie Loya double as
Courtney White scored. In the seventh inning with the bases loaded, Maddox tripled in
Amber Thibodeaux,
Kamyree Keilberg, and
Sarah Bledsoe to take the lead, 4-3. Loya then picked up another RBI for a two-run lead, 5-3.
Corley Carpenter finished out the scoring with a single to right field for the final run making it 6-3.
Loya led the team with two hits and two RBI. Maddox followed with one hit for three RBI. Carpenter recorded the other RBI.
Hannah Kelley started the game going three innings before being relieved by Cravey. She came in going four innings with one strikeout allowing no runs and only four hits.
Game 2
ETBU 12, SRSU 2
Taking game two in offensive fashion, ETBU scored in four of the five innings for the win. Cummings went 2-of-4 for four RBI while White,
Marin Musicant, and Maddox added two RBI. Loya recorded one RBI. Croft recorded the win with four strikeouts allowing just three hits.
Maddox homered in the first inning to start the game as the leadoff hitter. Cummings then had a RBI for a 2-0 lead. Musicant then recorded a two-RBI single for the 4-0 lead. White had a RBI single in the second making it 5-0. SRSU scored their two runs in the third inning to come within three, 5-2. Four more runs were added in the fourth inning as one run came in on an error. Cummings then had a home run for three-RBI and the 9-2 lead. The 10
th run came in the fifth inning on an error and then White posted a sac fly for the 11-2 advantage. Loya finished off the score with a single for the 10-run lead, 12-2.
ETBU will finish up the series vs. SRSU at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
