BELTON, Texas – Unloading for six runs in the eighth inning, East Texas Baptist University secured a game one win in their American Southwest Conference weekend series against UMHB, 8-3. ETBU now stands at 20-7 overall and 17-2 in the ASC.
Cole Godkin earned the win as he moved to 5-1 on the year. He went seven innings recording six strikeouts and now has 55 on the year.
Trent Clark finished the game going two innings with strikeouts.
Will Kelley went 3-of-5 with four RBI including a grand slam.
Christopher Robinson also had three hits. Adding two hits were
Austin Barry and
Carson Wilson.
Zachary McAdams added two RBI while
Brett Wagner and Barry posted one RBI.
ETBU started hot in the second inning with a lead-off triple from
Robinson as he recorded his first of three hits on the day. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third when UMHB answered back with a two-run triple.
Remaining scoreless in a defensive battle over the next four innings, the Tiger tied things up in the top of the seventh with
Jake Miller scoring on a pop fly from
McAdams. It was the eighth inning where the momentum changed in favor of ETBU scoring six runs.
Austin Barry singled into right field bringing the score to 3-2 as Robinson came in. Three singles and a walk filled the bases that brought in another run on a McAdams walk. Kelly broke open the scoring with a deep shot over the fence as four runs came in on the grand slam making it, 8-2.
UMHB would score one run in the 9th bringing the final to 8-3.
ETBU will have a double header on Saturday vs. UMHB to finish out the ASC series starting at 12 p.m.
