BB | ETBU Splits Games vs. UMHB; Claims 7th ASC Series

BELTON, Texas – Winning another American Southwest Conference series, East Texas Baptist University split their double header with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. ETBU won game one, 5-3, but fell in game two, 7-6, moving to 21-8 overall and 18-3 in the ASC. This is the seventh straight ASC series that ETBU has won this season.
 
Sayers Collins won game one with four strikeouts improving to 7-1 on the year. Braden Karnes received the loss in game two in relief and is now 2-1 on the year. Overall, Brett Wagner and Austin Barry both had four hits in the series while Jase Jones posted three.
 
Game 1
ETBU 5, UMHB 3

Collins pitched another complete game earning four strikeouts with three earned runs as ETBU won their 21st game of the year. Christopher Robinson, Wagner, and Barry all had doubles in the game. Barry went 2-for-2 with two RBI while Wagner added two hits. Carson Wilson also added two RBI. Charles Gordon added the other RBI.
 
Barry started the scoring for ETBU in the second inning with a double as Robinson came in. They then scored two more runs in the fourth inning for a 4-0 lead. Barry had another RBI on a single as Robinson came in again. The third run came in on a double play as Wagner scored and then Gordon singled in Barry to make it a four-run lead. UMHB responded with two in the fourth to cut the lead in half, 4-2. Wilson then hit into a double play as Wagner crossed home making it, 5-2. UMHB tried to rally in the sixth inning for one run but that is it a Collins retired the side in the seventh for the win.
 
Game 2
UMHB 7, ETBU 6

Two errors in the seventh inning gave UMHB the win as they went up 7-5 holding off an ETBU rally in the eighth inning. ETBU couldn't find the offense in the ninth to comeback as they fell, 7-6. Overall, ETBU committed four errors in the game.
 
Jacob Sherman started the game going five innings with four strikeouts for the no decision on two earned runs. Karnes went two innings for the loss and the Jagger Neely pitched the eighth inning recording one strikeout and retiring the side.
 
Zachary McAdams and Wagner had triples while Barry and Wilson added doubles in the game. Jones led the team going 3-for-5 with a RBI. Wagner, Barry, and Wilson all had two hits. Will Kelley led the team with two RBI as Wagner and Sam Rowland posted a RBI.
 
UMHB started off with a 3-0 lead after three innings. ETBU tied the game up at three in the fourth inning. Kelley had a sac fly as McAdams came in for the first run. Wagner then tripled in Jones for the second run and followed as the third run tying it up on a passed ball. Kelley gave ETBU the lead in fifth inning another sac fly as Gordan came home for the lead, 4-3. Jones then singled in McAdams to make it 5-3. UMHB pulled within one in the fifth inning and then had three unearned runs in the seventh for the 7-5 lead. Rowland grounded out in the eighth to pull within one, 7-6, as ETBU's rally was cut short with the tying run on third in the ninth inning.
 
ETBU will travel to the University of Dallas on Tuesday for a non-conference regional game.
