MARSHALL, Texas – An American Southwest Conference showdown took place at Taylor Field as #7 East Texas Baptist University split the double header with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. ETBU won game one, 5-0, but fell in game two, 3-0, and is now 21-7 and 15-5 in the ASC.
Hannah Kelley won game one moving to 8-1 on the year recording four strikeouts.
Tristen Maddox led the team with two RBI. In game two,
Kathryn Reed received the loss with three strikeouts and
Mary Frances Ellis posted two hits.
Game 1
ETBU 5, UMHB 0
Kelley only gave up four hits in a shutout win as ETBU won their 21
st game of the year. She retired the side in the second, third, and seventh innings. ETBU scored in the third, fourth, and sixth innings for the win. Maddox,
Courtney White, and
Tauryn Cummings all had two hits. Amber Thibadeau, White, and
Lorena Ramirez each had a RBI.
Thibodeau gave ETBU a 1-0 lead in the third inning with a single down the left field line as Maddox came home. White followed with a double bringing Thibodeau for the 2-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Maddox doubled to right center field scoring both
Corley Carpenter and
Kamyree Keilberg for the four-run lead, 4-0. Ramirez then rounded out the scoring with a single that brought in Ellis making it 5-0.
Game 2
UMHB 3, ETBU 0
ETBU out hit UMHB with seven hits to five but couldn't find the big hit to score runs as they fell, 3-0. Reed moved to 6-3 on the year and
Kassidy Cravey pitched the final two innings allowing no runs and only two hits. Maddox, Ramirez, White, Thibodeau, and
Delanie Loya all had one hit while Ellis added two hits.
ETBU had their scoring chances with the bases loaded twice but the offense wasn't there to bring in the runs as nine runners were left on base. UMHB scored two runs in the third and one in the fourth.
ETBU will finish the series on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in the final game of the series for the Strike Out Cancer weekend.
