AUSTIN, Texas – Splitting the double header with Concordia University-Texas, East Texas Baptist University won the series with a 4-0 win in the first game of the double header. ETBU then fell in game two, 2-1, and now are 25-10 overall and 22-5 in the ASC.
Sayers Collins received the win in game one recording eight strikeouts and allowing just three hits in the shutout win.
Braden Karnes pitched eight of the nine innings for a no decision in game two recording four strikeouts on four hits.
Brett Wagner led the team with three overall hits on the day.
Game 1
ETBU 4, CTX 0
Collins pitched another gem for ETBU recording eight strikeouts for his seventh win of the year.
Carson Wilson was 2-of-2 with two RBI while
Will Kelley also had two RBI.
Wilson singled up the middle in the second inning as Wagner came in for the 1-0 lead. He then added his second RBI of the game in the fourth inning with another single to the outfield as Wagner scored again making it 2-0. In the seventh inning, Kelley tripled to center field as
Charles Gordon and Wilson came in moving the lead to four, 4-0. Collins retired the side in the game in the first and seventh innings.
Game 2
CTX 2, ETBU 1
CTX had a walk off victory over ETBU in the final game in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Jagger Neely came in to pitch the ninth inning and received the loss as he is now 2-1. Wagner led the team with two hits and
Jase Jones had the lone RBI. Karnes started the game going eight innings giving up just one earned run on four strikeouts.
The first run of the game for CTX came in on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning. It wasn't until the top of the ninth that ETBU tied the game at one on a sacrifice fly from Jones. CTX then won the game in the bottom of the inning.
ETBU will host the University of St. Thomas-Houston on Tuesday night in a regional game.
