MARSHALL, Texas – Eight runs in the first two innings by East Texas Baptist University set the tone of Senior Day as the Tigers held off Concordia University-Texas, 10-4. ETBU is now 25-17 overall and 19-5 in the American Southwest Conference.
Ashley Croft received the win going five innings recording one strikeout giving up five hits.
Kassidy Cravey finished the final two innings not allowing any earned runs.
Marin Musicant,
Tauryn Cummings, and
Leah Akridge all had three hits. Cummings led the way with three RBI with a triple and home run while Musicant launched a home run recording two RBI.
Lorena Ramirez and
Courtney White also added two RBI.
ETBU did almost all of their scoring in the first three innings with Croft retiring the first nine batters of the game. White brought in the first run on a double as
Tristen Maddox came in. Musicant followed with a long blast to left center field for the 2-0 lead. It was a six-run second inning putting ETBU over the top in the game. White walked with the bases loaded for the third run of the game and a RBI. An error gave ETBU a 4-0 lead and Ramirez had a double to left center for two RBI making it 6-0. Cummings finished off the scoring with a two-run home run to centerfield making it 8-0. Musicant added another RBI in the third inning on a double for the nine-run lead.
CTX scored four runs over the next two innings to pull within five, 9-4, but a Cummings triple in the sixth made it 10-4.
ETBU honored three players on senior day in Musicant,
Kathryn Reed, and Akridge. All three have helped to maintain the winning tradition and were a part of the 2021 ASC Tournament Championship team.
ETBU will play next weekend in a three-game series at Texas Dallas.
