RICHARDSON, Texas – Splitting the American Southwest Conference double header on the road, #4 East Texas Baptist University won game two, 4-2, after falling in game one, 5-3, to the University of Texas Dallas. ETBU is now 26-8 overall and 20-6 in the ASC.
Hannah Kelley took the loss in game one and is now 8-2 on the year while
Kathryn Reed won game two improving to 9-3.
Tristen Maddox had a home run in game one for two RBI while
Tauryn Cummings and
Sarah Bledsoe each had a home run in game two.
Game 1
UTD 5, ETBU 3
ETBU scored first with one run in the first inning but then gave up five runs in the third to trail, 5-1. They scored two in the fourth to pull within two, 5-3, but then left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh for the two-run loss.
Maddox homered in the first for the first run of the game over centerfield. She then doubled in a run in the fourth inning for the second run of the game.
Courtney White brought in the other run with a single to right field.
Kelley went two innings for two strikeouts, four earned runs, and five hits.
Kassidy Cravey then came in and gave up a run on one it before
Toni Tamborello finished the final four innings recording three strikeouts with only one hit and no runs. Maddox led the team with two RBI while White also had two hits for one RBI. Cummings went 4-for-4 as
Amber Thibodeaux provided two hits, too.
Game 2
ETBU 4, UTD 2
Reed recorded seven strikeouts with no earned runs on four hits for her ninth win of the year. Cummings and Bledsoe each had a home run as White and
Marin Musicant recorded a RBI.
Musicant earned the first RBI of the game as she was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded in the first inning. White made it 2-0 in the fourth inning with a single up the middle as
Allison Damiani came in. UTD tied the game at two in the bottom of the inning but Bledsoe broke the tie with a home run in the sixth inning. Cummings then gave ETBU an insurance run in the seventh with a home run to left field for a 4-2 win.
The two teams will play one final game at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
