HOUSTON, Texas – Opening up the 2022 season in a four-set victory, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team defeated the University of St. Thomas 27-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-21 for their first win of the year. This match also gave new head coach
Mallory Matthews her first win at ETBU.
Graycee Mosley led the team with 20 kills, followed by
Kristin Kruger with 11 kills.
McKenzie Mansell recorded 21 assists as Lexi Moody had 18.
Lillie Hill finished with 29 digs.
POST GAME INTERVIEW
Avery Reid and Mosley started the game with four kills each in the first set as Hill had four digs. It came down to the end as ETBU held onto the 27-25 set win.
The second set ended with Mosley and Kruger getting pushing their total to nine kills for the match followed by Madi Chandler and Reid with seven. Hill recorded 12 more digs bringing her total to 17. The set ended, 26-24, in favor of the Tigers.
The third set was the closest of all four as UST came away with the win, 25-18. Leading the Tigers in kills was Mosley totaling to 13 kills followed by Kruger with 10. Hill led in digs tallying five more giving her 22 for the match. Kruger added 10 digs for the match.
The fourth set was led by Mosley who finished with 20 kills as ETBU won, 25-21.
ETBU will play again on Friday in Houston, Texas, at 3:00 pm against Widener University.
