HOUSTON, Texas - In a fast paced, three-set match, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team swept Widener University, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21. ETBU now starts off the season at 2-0 for the third time in the past four seasons.
Avery Reid and
Graycee Mosley recorded a team high nine kills each. Lexi Moody and
McKenzie Mansell both had 12 assists while
Lillie Hill and
Taylor Poore each produced 13 digs.

Starting off strong, Mansell began set one with a service ace followed by a kill from
Kristin Kruger. The Tigers ran out on an early by three points with Mansell recording a kill for a 4-1 lead. The set started heating up with Reid getting a kill setting the score at 13-7. The game ended with WU having an attack error (25-17). Reid led the set with five kills as Hill recorded three digs, and Moody totaled six assists.
The second set was led by Reid and Mosley with a combined six kills for the set. Notably, Mosley had back-to-back kills, setting the Tigers up with an early lead (4-1). Moody was on fire setting up
Alexis Mack and Mansell for kills raising the score to 18-13. The set ended 25-18 with Reid recording a kill..Reid and Mosley both recorded three kills in the set and Hill and Poor had five digs each as Mansell led the set with five assists.
The third, and final, set began with WU coming out strong. The set was close until WU started a streak of kills in the middle of the set going up three, 16-13. It was neck-and-neck until Kruger recorded a kill from Mansell. The match ended with a kill by Reid for a 25-21 match win.
ETBU will finish the tournament at St. Thomas on Saturday at 10:00 am and 3:00 pm against Willamette University and Neumann University.
