Garrett Garvin sailed in the game winning goal as East Texas Baptist University pulled off a 2-1 win over Belhaven University. ETBU is now 3-1 on the year and 3-0 on the road as they finish up their Mississippi trip.
In a well-balanced game, ETBU out shot Belhaven, 12-11, as both teams had four shots on goal. There was only one corner kick in the game by ETBU. Garvin led ETBU with three shots as two were on goal.
Bruno Palmieri also had three shots with one on goal.
Brenden Gajewski added two shots. Both Garving and Palmeiri recorded goals.
Gunner Barry recorded three saves in the win.
It wasn't until the 41
st minute that ETBU took the 1-0 lead on Palmieri's goal assisted by
Joel Garcia. ETBU had seven shots in 40 minutes with one on goal. Barry saved a shot in the 25
th minute and 40
th minute before ETBU scored. ETBU then took a 1-0 lead into the half.
Belhaven scored early in the 49
th minute to tie the match up at one. Barry recorded another save in the 72
nd minute to keep the game tied at one. In the 77
th minute, Garvin had a look on goal but it was stopped as it remained 1-1. Belhaven fought back with back-to-back shots in the 82
nd and 83
rd minutes with one just off the woodwork. Then, with just 30 seconds left, Garcia found Garvin for the game winning goal as ETBU came away with the 2-1 win.
ETBU will travel to Centenary College (La.) on Friday, Sept. 16, in Shreveport, La., for their next match at 7:00 p.m.
