DEMOREST, Ga. – A strong second half led to East Texas Baptist University to a come-from-behind victory over Piedmont College, 2-1. ETBU is now 3-2 on the year and 2-1 away from Cornish Field.
ETBU finished with 18 shots, 10 on goal, taking 10 in the second half to just 11 overall for Piedmont. ETBU also took five corner kicks to Piedmont's four.
Sarah Ramos and
Aaliyah Casas produced the goals for ETBU. Ramos produced six shots with four on goal while
Amy Pineda had two shots on goal.
Addison Funk finished with five saves.
Piedmont scored early in the first half in the 18
th minute but ETBU out shot them, 8-4. ETBU had three shots, one on goal, in the first 15 minutes as Pineda's shot was saved in the 13
th minute. Piedmont scored right after ETBU's attack in the 18
th minute for the 1-0 lead. Ramos then had a shot to the bottom center of the net saved in the 21
st minute. Pineda then had her second shot on goal in the period stopped in the 39
th minute as Piedmont kept the shutout going taking that momentum into the locker room.
Ramos tied the game in the 48
th minute, just three minutes into the second half. In the 58
th minute, Piedmont had their chance for the lead but a double-save by Funk kept the tie at one. Just over a minute later, ETBU took the lead on the go-ahead goal from Casas in the 58
th minute. The goal was assisted by
Aylisse Warren. Funk once again was strong in goal stopping a shot in the 76
th minute and 86
th minute as ETBU held onto the win.
ETBU will travel to the University of Dallas on Friday, September 16, at 7 p.m.
