MARSHALL, Texas – Taking on another top American Southwest Conference volleyball opponent, East Texas Baptist University put up a good fight in a four-set loss to the University of Texas Dallas, 25-19, 22-25, 21-25, 14-25. ETBU is now 11-2 and 3-2 in the ASC.
Graycee Mosley led the team with a double-double with 18 kills and 19 digs.
McKenzie Mansell recorded 23 assists, and
Lillie Hill finished with 18 digs.
Avery Reid added 11 kills and
Alexis Mack added two blocks.
ETBU caught an early lead of 5-3 on a kill by Kylie Smink in set one. UTD tied it up eight before taking the lead, 13-10. The set stayed neck-to-neck until ETBU went on a 7-1 run to end the set, 25-19.
UTD started the second set with a run and early lead of three, 6-3. A kill by Mack brought the score to within one, 6-5. UTD gained a lead of seven, 15-8, before a kill by Mosley closed it two, 15-13. ETBU pulled to within one, 22-21, but UTD finished with a 3-1 run to take the set, 25-22.
ETBU came to the third set on fire with an early lead of 9-2. A kill by Reid made it, 14-9. UTD had a 6-1 run that tied the score at 15 and kept the set close the rest of the way. Both teams fought hard to the end as UTD had a one-point lead 22-21 bored scoring the final three points for the set win, 25-21, and 2-1 lead.
The last set stayed close as ETBU was within one, 5-4, but UTD went on a 9-3 run for a 14-7 lead. They moved their lead to eight, 17-11, but ETBU came within six, 19-13, on a Reid kill. UTD went on to take the match, 25-14.
ETBU will continue ASC play at home on Friday, September 23rd, at 6:00 pm against Hardin-Simmons.
