CONWAY, Ark. – Recording their fourth shutout of the 2022 season, East Texas Baptist University held off Hendrix College, 1-0. ETBU is now 5-2-1 and on a four-match unbeaten streak.
ETBU dominated Hendrix (4-2) taking 18 shots with 10 on goal with two corner kicks. Hendrix had eight shots with six on goal all stopped by
Addison Funk. Funk is now 4-2-1 on the year recording three shutouts on the year, two combined.
Five players took two shots in the match as
Amy Pineda and
Sarah Ramos' shots were all on goal.
Isabella Dollagaray,
Alicea Castaneda,
Grace Freeman,
Olivia Gallegos,
Katherine Vela, and
Kayla Nichols all had a shot on goal.
Castaneda had the first shot on goal in the ninth minute and Pineda followed in the 15
th minute as both were saved. Funk stopped Hendrix's first shot in the 16
th minute as Freeman had her shot saved by the Warriors in the 24
th minute.
ETBU finally broke through in the 30
th minute when Ramos found the net off an assist from
Brianna Mickshaw. Nichols tried to add another goal in the 34
th minute but it was grabbed by the goalie. Funk earned her second save of the game in the 44
th minute just before half to secure the shutout at halftime.
Dollagraray started the second half off with a shot on goal in the 48
th minute and Pineda followed in the 52
nd minute as both were saved. Ramos put her second shot on goal in the 55
th minute and Gallegos had hers in the 63
rd minute. Vela fired a shot on goal in the 68
th minute as the final ETBU shot on goal for the game.
Funk then stopped shots in the 77
th, 88
th, and 89
th minutes right before the match ended.
ETBU will play a neutral site game vs. Howard Payne on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Forney, Texas.
