MARSHALL, Texas – Back at home for a Friday night match on Cornish field hosting Mississippi University for Women, East Texas Baptist University started their two match home stand with a 2-1 win. ETBU is now 4-2-1 on the year and earned their first home win of 2022 in the first meeting between the two teams.
Having out shot the Owls 18-4, the Tigers made the most of their offensive opportunities. Garret Garvin and
Bruno Palmieri picked up goals in the match, while
Justus Crow recorded an assist. The Tigers had eight shots on goal to the Owls' three. Tristan Welchel made a pair of acrobatic saves to keep two of those shots out.
The scoring all started in the 24th minute, when Garvin drove into the box from the left wing and was brought down, winning ETBU a penalty shot. Palmieri was selected for the shot and slotted it into the lower left hand corner to put ETBU up, 1-0. Less than two minutes later, Garvin was involved in the action again when he was on the end of a
Justus Crow cross and put it off the post and into the bottom right corner. The Owls pulled one back to within one in the 86th minute, but the Tigers were able to hold off the late onslaught for the 2-1 win.
ETBU's next match will be Schreiner University on Sunday, September 25, at 2:00pm.
