MARSHALL, Tx – Continuing their five-match home stand at Cornish Field, the East Texas Baptist University Tigers came away with a 2-1 win over the Schreiner University on Sunday afternoon. ETBU is now 5-2-1 on the year and 12-3-1 all-time against the Mountaineers.
ETBU had the majority of possession and outshot the Mountaineers, 20-9.
Brenden Gajewski came off the bench to net a pair of goals, while
Justus Crow,
Brady Box, and
Joel Garcia all picked up assists.
The scoring opened up in the 12th minute when the Mountaineers found the goal to go up 1-0 in the 12
th minute. The Tigers didn't back down as Box made a pass wide to Crow, who played a cross to Gajewski for the finish for the tying goal in the 30
th minute. The match then went to halftime tied at one.
The Tigers scored again in the 54th minute when Gajewski sent a 28-yard screamer top bins for his second goal on the day. The Mountaineers pressed hard through the rest of the match, but the Tiger defense snuffed out every attempt for the win.
Anthony Lozada and
Tristan Whelchel each played a half in goal. Schreiner had nine shots with just one on goal.
ETBU will continue their home stand on Thursday, September 29, at 7:30pm against Concordia University Texas.
