MARSHALL, Texas – Two quick scores in the first half became the difference in the American Southwest Conference men's soccer opener as East Texas Baptist University fell to Concordia University Texas, 2-0. ETBU is now 5-3-1 and 0-1 in the ASC.
ETBU took 14 shots in the game with four on goal but CTX countered with 26 shots as seven were on goal.
Brady Box,
Garrett Garvin,
Bruno Palmieri, and
Matthew Dieb all had shots on goal.
Tristan Whelchel was in goal recording five saves.
CTX scored quickly in the fifth minute for the early 1-0 lead in their first shot of the game. Garvin tried to counter in the 10
th minute but his shot was saved. Almost 20 minutes later, CTX had the insurance goal in the 24
th minute for the 2-0 advantage. Dieb recorded his shot on goal in the 29
th minute but was denied. The third ETBU shot on goal came in the 39
th minute by Box but CTX didn't let the ball get by keeping the shutout.
ETBU's only on goal shot in the second half came in the 90
th minute by Palmieri. CTX took 14 shots in the half as Welchel stopped four and didn't allow any more goals. ETBU couldn't find the net against CTX's defense as the game ended in favor of CTX, 2-0.
