MARSHALL, Texas - In an intense, five-set American Southwest Conference volleyball match, East Texas Baptist University put forth a valiant effort but came up short, 3-2 (20-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-20, 13-15) against LeTourneau University. ETBU is now 13-3 overall and 5-3 in the ASC.
Graycee Mosley lead the team with a double-double recording 26 kills and 23 dig as
Avery Reid added 14 kills. Lexi Moody recorded 22 assists, followed by
McKenzie Mansell with 17.
Lillie Hill finished with 28 digs and
Taylor Poore finished with 26.
Hannah Perry recorded four overall blocks.
The teams stayed neck and neck throughout the first set with nine ties. A kill by Mosley and an ace by Poore, put ETBU up, 12-7. LETU tied the score at 16 before taking the lead, 20-17. The set ended in the an ETBU attack error as LETU went up, 1-0, with the 25-20 win.
The second set was just as close as the first before LETU took a two-point lead, 10-8. ETBU quickly tied it at 10 with an ace by Perry. ETBU then took the lead with a kill by Reid and an ace by Mansell, 19-17. The set ended with a LETU error as ETBU won, 25-17, to tie the match at one set each.
LETU began the third set with a run and a three-point lead, 9-6. ETBU was quick to tie it at 11 with a kill by Reid from Hill. The set stayed close before ETBU took the lead, 20-17, on a kill by Mack. The Yellow Jackets were persistent and ended the set on an 8-3 run to go up, 2-1, 25-23.
ETBU jumped out to a 7-3 lead in set four. Kills by Mosley and Reid brought the score to a four-point lead, 11-7. LETU took a short lead of three points on a 7-0 run, 14-11. The Tigers were quick to react and took back the lead with a kill by Madi Chandler, 20-16, with a 9-2 run. The set ended on an LETU error as ETBU tied the match at two sets each, 25-20.
The final set was once again neck-to-neck tied at four. LETU broke the tie with a 4-2 run, 8-6, before ETBU tied it at eight with a kill by Mosley. ETBU then went up, 11-9, with a 3-1 run. LETU scored the next four points for a 13-11 advantage before both teams exchanged points. Mosley brought ETBU within one, 14-13, but LETU finished off the match with a kill to take the match, 15-13.
Is off this weekend and will play next on Friday, October 7th at 6:00 pm in Richardson, Texas, against Texas Dallas.
