MARSHALL, Texas – After 84 minutes of scoreless play, Concordia University Texas slipped by East Texas Baptist University's defense for the only goal of the game taking the American Southwest Conference opener, 1-0, of the Tigers. ETBU is now 6-3-1 and 0-1-0 in the ASC.
Both teams had their looks at the goal in the game as ETBU took 21 shots with eight on goal. CTX had 16 shots with seven on goal.
Sarah Ramos led the Tigers with five shots having two on goal.
Mallory Duncan also had two on goal while
Aaliyah Casas took three shots.
Addison Funk finished with six saves on the night.
In the first 27 minutes of the game, ETBU took four shots with two on goal. Duncan went right after CTX in the fourth minute but her shot was stopped.
Aylisse Warren had the second shot on goal in the 24
th minute to the top right but it also fell short as CTX's goalie grabbed it. In the 25
th minute, Funk stopped CTX's first shot on goal. ETBU took 10 shots in the first half as four were saved. Funk then stopped CTX's last shot of the period in the 41
st minute as the two teams went scoreless into the locker room.
Casas saw the goal in the 50
th minute but her attempt was stopped short as it remained 0-0. Ramos then took the sixth shot on goal for ETBU in the 53
rd minute but was denied again. Funk recorded three saves within seven minutes in the 50
th, 53
rd, and 54
th minutes on a vicious CTX attack. Duncan had a look in the 66
th minute but just missed as CTX grabbed another save.

th minute went right just missing the net. Less than 30 seconds later, CTX had a break away goal to take the lead, 1-0. Ramos had an opening for a shot in the 88
th minute but CTX once again denied ETBU a goal. ETBU's last look in the 89

Amy Pineda went right as the Tigers fell, 1-0.
ETBU will host Mary Hardin-Baylor at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday in ASC Play at Cornish Field.
